At Montanuniversität Leoben, Austria, the position of a
University Professor (f/m)
for the subject area of
Sustainable Mining Engineering
is to be filled in the form of an unlimited employment contract under public law in accordance with the Salaried Employees Act, on a full-time employment basis.
Montanuniversität Leoben is seeking a person of international standing who will teach and carry out research in the subject area of “Sustainable Mining Engineering”.
The field of the professorship “Sustainable Mining Engineering” comprises the extraction of mineral resources (in particular above ground and underground), mineral economics and post-mining. The future research orientation of the Chair of “Mining Engineering and Mineral Economics” shall focus on developing methods and procedures in mining engineering (such as the excavation of hard and soft rock), mine planning, rock mechanics, mine surveying as well as national, European and international raw materials politics. The term “sustainable” shall indicate the importance of environmental, safety-related and socio-political aspects as well as efficient extraction and utilization of natural resources in the conflicting interplay between nature, society and technology, and is hence of vital importance to this professorship and field.
With respect to teaching, the position holder is involved primarily in the bachelor’s programme “Mineral Resources Engineering” and master’s programme “Mining and Tunnelling” as well as the course „International Master of Science in Advanced Mineral Resources Development“. The Chair of “Mining Engineering and Mineral Economics” and the Department “Mineral Resources Engineering” are involved in international education and research programmes, therefore the official teaching languages are German and English.
Vital importance is attached to the disposition to collaboration with the other chairs in the Department “Mineral Resources Engineering” and further departments.
A university degree and relevant doctorate are required for employment. Habilitation or an equivalent scientific qualification is a prerequisite.
The applicant is expected to have experience in teaching and research and is required to have adequate didactic skills. He/she shall have a proven competence record of applying engineering knowledge related to solving problems arising in industry during his/her professional activities. Leadership skills and teamwork capabilities in particular are presumed.
Residency in the Greater Leoben area is desired.
Pay scale classification is in the A 1 bracket in accordance with the Collective Agreement for University Employees. In this bracket, the monthly salary stipulated for full-time employment in the collective agreement is € 5,130.20 gross (excluding 13th and 14th special payments). Given appropriate qualification, a higher salary may be negotiated.
