About the employer

The Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research (MPI FKF) is a leading research institution, specializing in cutting-edge basic research in the fields of quantum materials, nanoscience and materials for sustainable energy. The Institute fosters an international and interdisciplinary culture, with physicists, chemists, experimentalists, and theoreticians working together in eight large research departments and several research facilities. Our research facilities include state-of-the-art laboratories for materials synthesis and nanostructuring, a laboratory providing a 'noise-free' environment for the most sensitive experiments, and several synchrotron and neutron facilities at large-scale facilities in Germany. The institute collaborates intensively with many research groups worldwide and coordinates two international Max Planck Centers: the Max Planck - University of British Columbia - University of Tokyo Center for Quantum Materials and the Max Planck-EPFL Center for Molecular Nanoscience and Technology.

In addition to the scientific facilities, employees at the MPI FKF have access to a comprehensive infrastructure, including an International Office and HR support, glass and mechanical workshops, and IT. The campus has a modern, spacious library with multiple meeting areas and a coffee bar, which stimulate scientific exchange. There is also a cafeteria offering a variety of meals throughout the day, as well as a dedicated in-house kindergarten for children aged 6 months to 6 years.

We consider the training and further education of young scientists to be a core responsibility. The majority of the doctoral students at the MPI FKF are members of the International Max Planck Research School for Condensed Matter Science (IMPRS-CMS), a joint program with the University of Stuttgart. The objective of the IMPRS-CMS research school is to provide a comprehensive, interdisciplinary PhD training program in condensed matter research, utilizing advanced experimental and theoretical techniques. The IMPRS-CMS is complemented by an additional graduate school, the Max Planck Graduate Center for Quantum Materials (MPGC-QM), which is also coordinated at the MPI FKF. The MPGC-QM fosters collaboration among doctoral students in the field of quantum materials at seven Max Planck Institutes. This collaborative environment enables experts from across Germany to leverage their diverse expertise.
