The Faculty of Law at the University of Turku invites applications for a five-year term as Professor of Land Use and Property Legislation (endowed professorship).

The purpose of the donation is to strengthen research and teaching in the field of land use and property legislation in Finland and to support the development of legislation, case law, and administrative practices in this field through research-based expertise.

Job description

Professor in Land Use and Property Legislation

  • conducts and promotes high-quality research and provides research-based instruction in the field of land use and property legislation;
  • examine, in particular, legal issues related to property protection, land use, and environmental regulation, as well as legal issues related to, for example, real estate development, land use contractual arrangements, municipal land-use policy, or traditional real estate law;
  • is responsible for the development of research and teaching in the field and actively participates in national and international scientific collaboration in the field; and
  • actively engages in societal dialogue with key stakeholders.

Who we are looking for

The successful candidate will have

  • a doctoral degree;
  • high-level scientific expertise;
  • experience in leading scientific research;
  • experience in international collaboration within their field of research, and the ability to provide high-level research-based teaching and supervise theses;
  • the ability to engage in societal dialogue and contribute to the development of legislation and legal practices.

When evaluating applicants’ qualifications, the following will be taken into account:

  • scientific publications and other research results of scientific value;
  • teaching experience and pedagogical training, the ability to produce learning materials, other achievements in teaching, a teaching demonstration; and participation in doctoral education.

In addition, the following will be taken into account:

  • the applicant’s active participation in the scientific community;
  • success in securing supplementary research funding, as well as
  • scientific work abroad and international assignments; and
  • ability and experience in societal engagement and in the development of legislation and legal practices.

The successful candidate is required to have sufficient Finnish language skills to be able to teach, supervise student theses, and check exams and essays in Finnish.

Salary and trial period

Salary is determined in accordance with the salary system for teaching and research staff at universities (YPJ). The exact salary will be determined when the employment contract is drawn up.

The position has a trial period of six months.
