The Laboratory of cell Biology and Histology at the University of Antwerp and UCB Pharma are seeking to fill the following full-time (100%) vacancy: Doctoral fellowship on the subject: Peripheral immune imprinting of brain immunity in human-relevant models.
Position
Research Topic
Peripheral inflammatory signals can induce long-lasting systemic immune activation that engages brain border myeloid cells and drives microglial reprogramming, thereby influencing neurodegenerative cascades. To investigate this in a scalable and translationally relevant manner, we will employ a human immune-competent cerebral organoid platform with modular control over neuro-immune interactions. By combining single-cell resolved omics with fully contextualized, in toto imaging, we will dissect how peripheral inputs reshape macrophage/microglial identity, alter synaptic function, and modulate amyloid pathology. This integrated approach will enable us to resolve both the spatial and temporal dynamics of neuroimmune imprinting. Finally, by addressing the persistence, reversibility, and underlying signaling pathways of this process, we aim to identify novel intervention points to prevent chronic neuroinflammation.
