The Faculty of Civil Engineering at TU Wien is offering the following tenure track position for women, full-time (40 hours/week) in form of an initially fixed-term (6 years) tenure track position starting from October 2022. The candidate and TU Wien can agree upon a tenure evaluation, which when positive, opens the possibility to change the position to Associate Professor with an unlimited contract. According to TU Wien’s Plan for Advancement of Women, this announcement invites applications from women only. 
The tenure-track position is affiliated to the Institute for Water Quality and Resource Management, Research Unit for Water Quality Management. Duties include research and teaching in the field of watershed and river basin management regarding water quality aspects. The focus of research should be on:

  • Monitoring, modelling and management of emissions, instream concentrations and loads of anthropogenic trace substances on the level of watersheds and river basins.
  • Regional nutrient management with a specific focus on water pollution via diffuse and point sources and pathways as well as on secondary recourses from wastewater and sewage sludge.

Tasks:

Research:

  • Further development and shaping of the field of river basin management at the Institute for Water Quality and Resource Management.
  • Development, adaptation and implementation of methods for evaluation of sources, pathways and sinks of anthropogenic trace substances in water resource systems as basis for effective water pollution control.
  • Development of methods for improving the understanding and the assessment of effectiveness of strategies for optimization of the regional nutrient household, water pollution control and recovery of secondary resources from wastewater and sewage sludge.

Administration:

  • Involvement in general administrative tasks of the research unit
  • Engagement in university boards
  • In the medium term self-dependent management of a research group

Teaching:

  • The successful candidate will teach in classes of the Bachelor and Master curricula for Civil and Environmental Engineering the topics ecology, water quality and ecology as well as river basin management. It is emphasized that teaching in the Bachelor curriculum is foreseen both in English and in German language. Thus, appropriate language skills are required.

Your profile:

  • University Master and Doctoral degree or equivalent and proficiency in German and English
  • Proven expertise in the:
    • Monitoring of anthropogenic trace substances.
    • Regional material flow analyses
    • Regional nutrient management
    • Emission modelling at the scale of river basins
  • Outstanding achievements and potential in research, excellent publication record, international reputation
  • Experience in academic teaching (classes, seminars, exercises) and supervising or co-supervising of academic theses
  • Experience in designing and participating in research projects, as well as the willingness and ability to lead research groups, willingness to acquire third-party funding
  • German language skills (C1) for academic teaching and contact with local German speaking boards and practitioners.
  • Advanced knowledge in statistics and programming are desirable
  • Scientific activity outside TU Wien, preferentially outside Austria

The employment starts as University Assistant with a minimum salary of EUR 3,945.90 gross (14 x per year) according to the collective bargaining agreement for a PostDoc. After signing the qualification agreement, the employment continues as Assistant Professor with a minimum salary of EUR 4,666.30 gross (14 x per year).
