Develop (photo)acoustic and spectral imaging setups, perform measurements on multiple types of (photo)acoustic transducers

What you will do

  • You will guide the development of new ultrasound systems from the transducer design, over characterization towards (photo)acoustic imaging applications.
  • You will design and characterize transducers and ultrasound systems, electrically, mechanically, and acoustically.
  • You will provide support across multiple projects based on your knowledge of (photo)acoustics and (spectral) imaging.
  • You will maintain a high standard of literature knowledge to support your activities.
  • You will collaborate with specialists from our cross-disciplinary design and technology teams.
  • You will contribute to the creation of a long-term vision and strategy for the group.

Who you are

  • PhD degree in Physics, Mechanics, Electrical or Biomedical Engineering with several years of relevant experience.
  • Proven experience in ultrasound systems, including MEMS design, acoustic characterization and application-oriented ultrasound imaging.
  • Experienced user of imaging with ultrasound systems (such as Verasonics).
  • Proficient in use of multiphysics design and simulation software (such as Comsol, MEMS+ or Ansys) and in specialized ultrasound simulation software (k-wave, Field-II).
  • Experience in MEMS characterization (e.g. impedance measurement or laser Doppler vibrometry) is an asset.
  • Experience in photoacoustics and/or spectral imaging is an asset.
  • Experience with project management is an asset.
  • Ability to quickly write code or routines using Matlab or Python.
  • The imec environment requires a good team player with good communication and reporting skills.
  • Given the international character of imec, a good knowledge of English is mandatory.
