Professorship (W3 or W2 TT W3) in 20th Century and Contemporary History

At the Faculty of Arts and Humanities a

Professorship (W3 or W2 TT W3) in 20th Century and Contemporary History

is to be filled from the earliest possible date.

The successful candidate (m/f/o) will be expected to represent the entire field of 20th century and contemporary history. He/she has an excellent, innovative research profile particularly in the history since 1945 and holds expertise on a further field of 20th and 21st century history. He/she will be able to contribute to the university’s research profile in 20th and 21st century European history in its global context. On the basis of his/her own research, the successful candidate will be expected to cooperate with the Buchenwald and Mittelbau-Dora Memorials Foundation as well as the Ettersberg Foundation. He/she will be expected to contribute to the Cluster of Excellence “Imaginamics. Practices and Dynamics of Social Imagining” and to the development of further interdisciplinary focal research areas. Furthermore, he/she must have a proven track record concerning leadership, team-building and cooperation as well as the successful application for external research funding, a scientific visibility at a national and international level. Our future colleague will engage in interdisciplinary collaboration and contribute his/her expertise to the dialogue with society.

Your duties will include teaching on the Bachelor's degree and teacher training programmes in history as well as on the Master's degree programme in 20th and 21st century history and politics. You will be expected to acquire any German language skills you lack within three years in order to enable you to teach in German and actively participate in German-speaking committees.

Candidates must have a completed degree, pedagogical aptitude, a particular aptitude for academic work demonstrated by a doctorate in the field of 20th Century and Contemporary History as well as a Habilitation or equivalent academic achievements.

Appointment as a W3 professor shall be for life as a civil servant, provided that the legal requirements are met. In the case of a first-time appointment to a professorship, the professorship shall initially be filled as a W2 professorship for a fixed term of six years. After a maximum of six years and subject to a positive tenure evaluation, appointment to a W3 professorship shall take place without the vacancy being readvertised.
