Postdoctoral Position in Stakeholder Engagement

We invite applications for a postdoctoral position at the Transdisciplinarity-Lab (TdLab) of the Department of Environmental Systems Science at ETH Zürich. You will be responsible for designing and implementing the stakeholder engagement of the NCCR CLIM+.

Project background

The postdoctoral position will be an integral part of the newly established National Competence Centre in Research NCCR CLIM+. NCCR CLIM+ supports Switzerland’s transformation towards a climate-resilient society and trains a new generation of experts with strong disciplinary and transdisciplinary expertise. This project offers the opportunity to collaborate with leading experts in atmospheric and climate science within the NCCR CLIM+ as well as ETH Zurich.

Job description

In the NCCR CLIM+ storylines are key to achieve actionable knowledge and cross-disciplinary communication. Storylines are scientifically based stories that represent plausible futures and extreme climate outcomes in their physical and social dimensions. You will be responsible to embed the storylines in their societal environment. For each storyline you will

  • Identify the most important stakeholders and establish a network that connects them with the storyline’s researchers.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate a Theory of Change with the network.
  • Design, implement and evaluate the transdisciplinary process of engagement and co-production of knowledge and practices.

You are welcome to further develop transdisciplinary methods and theories and to make your achievements known via talks and publications.

The position is for three years initially and can be extended. The starting date is as soon as possible.

In general, doctoral / postdoctoral researchers at ETH Zurich have a full-time employment. A part-time employment may only be considered in exceptional cases (e.g. child- or familycare, other projects or employment).

Profile

We are looking for a person who

  • Has a doctorate in environmental or sustainability sciences.
  • Is experienced in designing, implementing and evaluating transdisciplinary research processes.
  • Has excellent interpersonal skills for both, collaborating with researchers of different disciplines as well as with stakeholders of different sectors of society.
  • Can handle situations of conflicting communication, power and interests, looking for a pragmatic way forward.
  • Is interested in critically questioning transdisciplinary theories and methods to develop them further.
  • Is fluent in English and German.

We offer

TdLab’s expertise lies in theories and practices of transdisciplinary research and teaching. We offer a work environment that invites you to take ownership of your project, while getting skilled support as needed. We are looking for collaborators who want to further develop transdisciplinary research and teaching with a mindset of failing forward. Your future colleagues have diverse disciplinary backgrounds. They work with theories and practices of transdisciplinary research and teaching as a means to promote sustainable development.
