Postdoctoral researcher – Mass Spectrometry-based Metabolomics

Within the University, the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) is a highly interdisciplinary research centre (IC), integrating experimental biology and computational biology approaches in order to develop the foundation of a future predictive, preventive and personalized medicine.

The Metabolomics Platform is a mass spectrometry service facility within the LCSB. Its main goal is to offer analytical services to research groups at the LCSB and in Luxembourg. Our vision is to not only act as a measurement facility but to offer consulting in experimental design for metabolism related analyses to provide optimal results. It is also to provide and develop analytical methods to address a broad spectrum of biological questions. The unit comprises state-of-the-art instruments including LC-MS, IC-MS and GC-MS instruments (with Orbitrap, QQQ, QToF and QTRAP mass analyzers).

Your Role...

• Design/perform various experiments using core technologies such as LC-MS, IC-MS and GC-MS
• Analyze data and write reports, protocols, SOP’s and other documentation (LIMS)
• Develop extraction and analytical methods for biological sample matrices
• Maintain and troubleshoot analytical instruments as needed
• Critically review the experimental design of projects which include core technologies
• Interact and collaborate with scientists at all levels (PhD students, postdocs, principal investigators, professors)
• Participate in grant writing
• Prepare and submit scientific material for peer review for publication independently or in collaboration with other researchers

What we expect from you…

• PhD in biology, chemistry, biochemistry or any other relevant discipline
• Strong theoretical and practical competences in analytical chemistry, especially chromatography - mass spectrometry techniques (LC-MS, IC-MS and GC-MS)
• Strong hands-on experience of Metabolomics (small molecules) approaches, incl. method development, measurement of large sample sets, etc.
• Experience in sample preparation from multiple biological (potentially infectious) matrices (g., blood, urine, stool, tissue, cells, bacteria, yeast)
• Solid experience with computational metabolomics data analysis tools and strong notions in statistical methods for metabolomics data analysis
• Possess excellent interpersonal skills and able to perform team oriented as well as independent work
• Good knowledge and understanding of metabolism and previous experience(s) in life science-related research will be considered as a strong plus
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are a must
