The Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine (FSTM) contributes multidisciplinary expertise in the fields of MathematicsPhysicsEngineeringComputer ScienceLife Sciences and Medicine. Through its dual mission of teaching and research, the FSTM seeks to generate and disseminate knowledge and train new generations of responsible citizens, in order to better understand, explain and advance society and environment we live in.

The University of Luxembourg is looking for a Ph.D candidate to work within its photovoltaics cluster. The cluster comprises three groups consisting in total of around 25 researchers which investigates new concepts and materials to improve thin film solar cell performance. As part of this cluster, the laboratory for energy materials (LEM) led by Prof. Phillip Dale, focusses on new semiconductors and synthesis methods, as well as novel device designs for building integrated photovoltaic applications.  

Your Role...

LEM is seeking a Ph.D candidate to investigate new semiconductor deposition methods for thin film solar cells with proposed application of building integrated photovoltaics. The candidate will join the doctoral programme in physics and materials science. The tasks of the candidate include

  • Synthesis, materials and device characterization
  • Publishing research papers and presenting at international conferences
  • Writing a Ph.D thesis
  • Providing support to masters students and visiting researchers
  • Teaching and outreach opportunities

What we expect from you…

  • Masters degree in chemistry, materials science or physics with excellent grades
  • Solid background or previous experience in one of the following research fields is an advantage: inorganic or physical chemistry, solid state or condensed matter physics
  • Fluent written and verbal communication skills in English
