Associated or Assistant Professor in the field of  Numerical Methods for social computing and computational diplomacy 

DESCRIPTION:

Computational diplomacy is an emerging field in the domain of computer science applied to social systems. The goal of this position is to contribute to building this field and to develop innovative computational methods to describe, understand, and predict the state of international relations, to identify networks of influence, deadlock situations, risk of conflicts, and to analyze the impact of various scenarios on the evolution of a given crisis.

This position is part of a new laboratory dedicated to science in diplomacy. It is located in the center of international Geneva and is linked to the main actors in this field. The candidate will work closely with a recently appointed colleague whose objective is to analyze governance and international relations through the theory and application of complex systems.

This position is a comprehensive position, with teaching at the bachelor, master and doctoral levels. The successful candidate should be able to teach basic computer science courses as well as advanced courses related to the specified field, namely data science, complex systems, artificial intelligence, in particular natural language processing and computer vision, as well as modeling, simulation, and optimization methods.

This person will develop cutting-edge research in the above topics and help build the field of computational diplomacy through innovative ideas, collaborations and fundraising.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Doctorate in Science or equivalent.

Publications in high impact international journals. If possible, experience in university teaching and conducting international interdisciplinary and collaborative research at the frontier of the natural and social sciences.

The candidate must be fluent in English and must be committed to learning French in order to teach at the bachelor level. This person will also have knowledge of high performance computing and the use of GPUs. He/she will be dynamic, open to interdisciplinary collaborations, able to have a rigorous theoretical approach, while being able to solve concrete problems. Experience in analyzing and modeling social systems is highly desirable.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate academic excellence and the impact of their work at the national and international level.
