The University of Akureyri advertises a vacant full-time position for an Assistant Professor of Psychology at the Faculty of Psychology, within the School of Social Sciences.
We seek academics specialising in developmental, social, or educational psychology. We particularly welcome applications from candidates whose work has an applied focus within one of these domains, and those with a strong background in research methods.
Intended starting date for the position is as soon as possible or the 1st of August, 2022 at the latest. The initial term of the contract is five years, after which the candidate can request a permanent position, according to Regulations no. 258/2016 on the Work of the Evaluation Committee and Hiring of Faculty at the University of Akureyri. A promotion can be considered on employment should the successful candidate be considered qualified as associate professor or full professor by the Evaluation Committee.
The primary responsibilities of the person selected for the position are teaching and research in the specified subfields of psychology. Their immediate superior is the Head of the Faculty of Psychology. The Faculty member will be based in Akureyri, north-eastern Iceland.
All studies in psychology are taught in a flexible learning format. There are approximately 300 students currently enrolled in degrees in psychology and the faculty is part of the School of Social Sciences. The faculty at the department of psychology conduct research in the fields of neuroscience, cognition and perception, applied behaviour analysis, psychometrics, clinical psychology, sport psychology, as well as interdisciplinary research within UNAK and in collaboration with international partners.

Salary will be in accordance with the collective agreement between the UNAK Faculty Union (FHA) and the Ministry of Finance.
The processing of applications, assessment of applicants’ qualifications, and selection are conducted in accordance with the provisions of the Public Higher Education Institutions Act 85/2008, and regulations of the University of Akureyri 387/2009 (amended) and 258/2016 on the work of the selection committee and the recruitment of academic faculty at the University of Akureyri.
