The development of the environmental data portal (EnviDat) is as a strategic focus for WSL. The EnviDat initiative aims to make WSL’s rich reservoir of environmental monitoring and research data accessible for research, practice and the public. Full-Stack Software Developer EnviDat 80 - 100% (m/w/d)


Become part of a small, passioned and innovative team in charge of the further development of the environmental data portal EnviDat (www.envidat.ch) for the management, registration and storage of WSL’s research data. You will be working together with the technical coordinator on defining and implementing interoperable functionalities related to Research Data Management (RDM) Services & Infrastructures (S&I) in the frame of cooperation projects co-funded by the Open Research Data (ORD) Program of the ETH Domain (https://open-research-data-portal.ch). As part of these ORD projects, you will contribute to the definition, development and testing of commonly agreed interoperable APIs (e.g. Storage Access API, interoperable Metadata API) as well as their productive implementation in EnviDat’s Backend for enabling (meta)data exchange between ETH Domain Institutions. Furthermore, you will be integrating in the EnviDat Frontend the Storage Access and Metadata APIs with selected active data management systems and tools (e.g. Renkulab.io) that track data provenance.


You have a degree in computer science (or comparable education and skills) and are skilled in software development and in the technical implementation of computer science projects. You possess excellent backend programming (Python), APIs (S3 API, FastAPI) and frontend development (JavaScript, CSS, vue.js) skills. Experience with databases (PostgreSQL), scientific data visualization and community-based software development (especially CKAN) is a plus. You are familiar in agile software development (Scrum) with short release cycles (2 weeks) and enjoy working intensively in a small team with new technologies in the field of environmental data management. You are a reliable team player and fluent in German and English.
