ABOUT GHENT UNIVERSITY

Ghent University is a world of its own. Employing more than 15,000 people, it is actively involved in education and research, management and administration, as well as technical and social service provision on a daily basis. It is one of the largest, most exciting employers in the area and offers great career opportunities. With its 11 faculties and more than 80 departments offering state-of-the-art study programmes grounded in research in a wide range of academic fields, Ghent University is a logical choice for its staff and students.

For this project, you will work as part of the "AlUla Inscriptions Corpus Analysis Project (AICAP).' This is a four-year collaboration between Ghent University and the Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU). The project will develop an online, accessible, long-term database of the inscriptions documented in the AlUla County, in Saudi-Arabia, by the RCU. The incriptions include texts from as early as the 6th century BC up to modern Arabic graffiti.

The goal of the project is to digitize and analyze the thousands of inscriptions that the RCU collected to understand and share AlUla's rich, intercultural history through the inscriptions of its historical residents and visitors, while also shedding new light on, among others, Ancient North Arabian languages and Arabic. The project will also contribute to capacity building and public outreach programming in AlUla.
