The Structural Geology and Tectonics (SGT) group in the Geological Institute, ETH Zurich, Switzerland, is transitioning leadership to Professor Whitney Behr beginning July 2018, and is seeking researchers to join our program focused on the dynamics and kinematics of deformation in Earth’s lithosphere.
Postdoc or Senior Assistant position in Structural Geology and Tectonics
The successful candidate will conduct structural geology and tectonics research in collaboration with SGT group members, and will teach and co-teach core structure/tectonics courses, including field-based courses. The candidate will also have the opportunity to raise funds as principal investigator and supervise or co-supervise Ph.D., M.S., and B.S. student projects. The preferred start date is early 2019 but is negotiable. The initial contract will be for 1 year, with possibility of renewal for up to a total of 6 years. A competitive salary will be in accordance with the candidate’s experience level and the regulations of ETH Zurich.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Earth Sciences within the general area of structural geology and tectonics, and will preferably have at least 1-2 years postdoctoral or university-level teaching experience. The ability to teach in German is required, and detailed knowledge of Alpine geology is strongly preferred.
